Surf Breaks: The Punta Mita area has multiple breaks, allowing for many levels of challenge. The Punta de Mita area, historically known as the ‘Mexican Malibu’ is located on the North Shore of Banderas Bay. Punta Mita begins with 3 quality breaks including the long workable rights at El Faro. Epic waves that on occasion connect with El Anclote beach, can provide incredibly long half mile rides.
1) Veneros (meaning “the source”). An excellent long reef break (just a walk down the stairs) breaks directly in front of our house. This spot breaks on any swell, but southwest swells 200-225 degrees are optimum.
2) Veneros Beach Break. Just 300 yards “down the beach” (to the left), this right and left hander is excellent for practicing your skills on a faster wave over an all sand bottom. The wave is shorter than Veneros, but fast and fun. It also breaks on any swell, but prefers a south or southwest.
Surf Yacht-
You’ll have the option available to do 3-5 days on a 44 ft surf yacht, surfing the breaks of the Bay of Banderas. After 3-4 days of hitting the waves in Punta de Mita area, we can board our own 44 ft yacht/sailboat to explore the Bandaras Bay.
Featuring more than 100 miles of beaches and 12 miles of empty surf breaks, all swell directions break in this huge area. This set-up favors rights at La Lancha, Punta Burros, Swimming Pools and Destiladeras, as well more than 20 other breaks, (left and right point breaks, reef and beach breaks, for long or shortboarding.)
Longer sailboat trips: In May there is also the option for a longer sailboat trip up into the San Blas region of Mexico. Stoner`s Point is the classic point caught on a perfect day by Jeff Hackman and Jock Sutherland in ‘Cosmic Children’. Further in the Bay, Las Islitas has been known as the longest wave in the world 5,700 feet, it wraps around into the famous Matanchen Bay. It’s an unforgettable ride, a mellow wall with occasional tubing sections and if you can still feel you legs at the end, you can walk back to the point.
